By Tom Alston
I originally penned this article in February 2006. However, it is more relevant today then ever.
Walking by a newspaper stand on a street in Los Angeles the other day my attention was grabbed by a headline I’ll paraphrase, “Law enforcement has openings for 1100 deputies”. I was in a hurry so I did not bother to read the details. My curiosity passed over a question whether the department had lost that many officers or was it just that a hiring goal had never been reached. I decided it wasn’t important enough to get an answer; so I filed that question in my internal wastebasket.
The very next day I walk by the same stand and almost fell over. The headline announced “Crime in the valley is down 16%.” Well, it seems to me no one needs to hire more deputies, crime went down when they were 1100 officers short. Now, some people think I am a redneck; but even I wondered what would happen if they let another 500 or so fall off the roles through retiring and never replaced them. But that is just me. I see the obvious connections between everything.
The point of this story is not to get you to read newspapers. I stopped reading newspapers nearly twenty years ago. I pull out the sports section and check the scores. That is the only thing the media doesn’t lie about. It isn’t that there is anything sacred about sports; it is just that Americans have way too much interest in sports for the media to lie about it. Imagine how little the media could get away with if the American people were more interested in really important issues.
Do you remember when the government stepped in some years back and banned alcohol advertising from television? Many politicians stood around and slapped each other on the back for saving the American soul. Have you noticed that now it seems like every other ad on television is for some drug or promotes you to take a little quiz on some symptoms you might have and then it recommends that you proceed directly to your doctor and demand proper medication. Why no outcry from the American public? Why doesn’t the government put a stop to it?
Around 10 million children in this country have been slapped with a spurious psychiatric label and wind up on mind altering drugs. What's the matter with this picture? Our schools were a source of pride before this agenda entered American education. I wonder if the 'Ritalin epidemic' has not conditioned the minds of up and coming ball players that, find no problem with the use of steroids."
NO medical test exists for chemical imbalance in the brain yet the big drug companies and their “pushers”, the American psychiatrist, are forcing “screening for every Teenager in America for these non-existent diseases. Why do they get away with it? Because Americans pay more attention to the point spread on the Lakers game then the destruction of America’s future leaders through forced drugging and incarceration. This diabolical program being pushed by a President that I used to support is the devil incarnate. The Nazis would be proud.
If the local gang bangers grabbed your kids off the street and gave them a 10 point quiz to determine which drug they should buy, then administered free samples while they were being forcibly held to get them started, the mothers and fathers of America would become vigilantes in a heartbeat. Yet using the power of Hollywood to break down our resistance to rampant drug use and then adding several peoples in white coats in commercials to give them some credibility, the every day citizenry has been hood winked into thinking that drugs solve anything.
The financial power of the drug manufacturers in the United States bankrolls 2 lobbyists for every Senator and Congressman in Washington, D.C. That is around 1100 people whose sole purpose is to keep our elected Federal politicians so suckled to their treasure chest of money, perks and pleasures that they can never vote against what big medicine needs to keep itself rolling. No one would ever buy most of their drugs if they weren’t financed by some federal money. These so-called prescription programs keep the American public hooked on the drug of the day. Many of which have side effects that can be worse than the original problem.
I know of one politician in Massachusetts who decided to challenge the medical establishment and her own party left her off the ballot in the next election. The local Democrat party dropped her.
It is time that we all observe the obvious. The threat of terrorism is miniscule when compared to the damage being done by psychiatry which has no medical test to prove its claims of disease. Most of the items in their revered book of diseases are voted into existence without proven medical trials. Why doesn’t the American public demand proof?
We have all become numb to some degree. Ask yourself this question. Are the students of today any different than those of two decades ago? Is there any difference in the way you have to handle parents when they challenge your coaching skill? Do you get the same kind of support from the administration that you used to? Do you feel like giving up and going fishing?
Well coach, here is the only question that you MUST answer. What are you going to do about it? Yes, I am talking to you. You need to make sure your program encourages your players to know the difference between right and wrong. You need to be a good example in the way you live your life every day. Teach your players to observe the obvious.
Take advantage of programs like ABLE’s character camps put on by ex-NFL football player Bob Adams to expose your athletes to a workable non-religious moral code that has been used in countries like Venezuela to stop wars and in Los Angeles to quell gang violence. It does not exclude God; it is designed to be used by anyone. This code is contained in a small booklet called The Way to Happiness, a handbook of universal life principles that promotes self respect and values of trust, honesty and tolerance. The Way to Happiness book is published in over 90 languages and over 65 million copies of the book have been distributed worldwide, including programs in over 12,000 U.S. schools. If you send your name and address to me at coachalston@comcast.net, my wife Cristina will send you a free copy and we’ll pay the postage.
Be the lighthouse in the fog that exists in American education which is driven by greed, reductions of standards and the abandonment of responsibility. Hold your players accountable for their actions until they understand it is their only way out of the darkness.
Our own government is coming apart under an onslaught of drug money, both “legal” and “illegal.” Our basic freedoms are being traded for an illusion that can be smoked, swallowed or snorted. What are you willing to do about it? Read the book. It will guide you.
